About This Wine:

The Fenocchio’s farm sits amongst the most prized vineyards in Barbaresco. If fact, they hold a plot adjacent to Angelo Gaja’s and sell some of their fruit to Bruno Giacosa. What sets the Fenocchios’ apart from both Angelo and Bruno, is their commitment to do everything in the vineyard themselves and always by hand.

Tasting Note:
There is a ton of fruit on the nose supported by spices, black tea, leather, mint and lanolin. The palate shows high alcohol and massive ripe tannins but nicely balanced acidity typical of the 04 vintage. Impressive length and masculine style suggest that this is a wine that has tremendous aging potential.

Vintage Report:
This vintage is living up to its promise of one of the best of the century. 2004 delivered perfect amounts of heat and rainfall. The weather around harvest was simply spectacular. All Piedmontese reds show a special finesse and brightness. Beautiful fragrance and aromas are supported by classic structure and power. Acid and sugar levels are perfectly balanced. Expect wines that will age for many, many years.

Terroir: Barbaresco - Piedmonte
Barbaresco is located on the finest hill side sites in the Langhe hills. Just like Barolo, the soil of barbaresco is the calcareous clay marl that allows nebbiolo to fully express its self. Barbaresco ripens earlier than Barolo and therefore is typified by wines that are softer and more perfumed than barolo.

Grape Variety: Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is the variety used in both barolo and barbaresco and is only truly at home in the Langhe Hills. Bright garnet red in the glass that tends towards orange as the wine ages. Rich and harmonious on the nose, typically with aromas of violets, white truffels, cinnamon, liquorice and cherry. Dry, robust and austere with a velvety texture and persistent intensity. Nebbiolo from around the Langhe hills is famous for its ability to deliver amazing power with elegance and finess. You can expect well balanced Nebbiolo to age for many decades.
